Eden Hazard will leave Real Madrid at the end of the season after agreeing to terminate his contract a year early.
The Belgian is due to say goodbye to the Santiago Bernabeu on Sunday when Real Madrid plays against Athletic Club in their last match of La Liga.
Hazard joined the Real from Chelsea in the summer of 2019, becoming the most expensive signing in the club’s history.
Several injury problems have limited Hazard to becoming a bench-warmer at the club, and the former Lille winger has struggled to settle at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Since joining the club in 2019, Hazard has made 76 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing 12 assists.
Real Madrid has saved part of his massive salary by terminating his contract one year before.
A statement said:
Real Madrid CF and Eden Hazard have reached an agreement whereby the player will be released from the club as of June 30, 2023. Hazard has been part of our club for four seasons, in which he has won eight titles: one European Cup, one Club World Cup, one European Super Cup, two leagues, one Copa del Rey and two Spanish Super Cups. Real Madrid wants to express its affection for Eden Hazard and wishes him and his entire family the best of luck in this new stage.”
Eden Hazard will now decide whether to try a new chapter soon or retire from a professional football career.
