Big Brother Naija star Erica Nlewedim has clapped back at a fan who criticized her for taking her estranged father to a recent event.
The drama began when Erica attended the movie premiere of Kiekie’s Unscripted Experience show accompanied by her father. She shared clips from the event on her social media pages, showcasing a moment of reconciliation with her formerly absentee dad.
During her time in the BBNaija house, Erica revealed that she was raised solely by her mother and had only reconnected with her father through social media. Their relationship was initially strained, but after her appearance on the reality show, he began to make amends and even referred to her as the “Most Beautiful Girl in Africa” in 2020.
However, her decision to bring him to the premiere sparked criticism from a fan, who accused Erica of prioritizing her father over her mother, who had raised her and supported her financially.
Her dad was absent growing up, but guess who she flaunts now? Him! Her mum literally raised her and was financially responsible for her, but because of how male-centered she is, she just had to,” the fan commented.
In a fiery response, Erica questioned the fan’s perspective, pointing out that she frequently celebrates her mother and refuses to hold grudges against her father.
There’s always one fool. Like I’ve not been posting my mom all the holidays, the one time I post my dad, I’m male-centered. Left to you, I’ll be a bitter witch holding grudges till he dies, and then I’ll say, ‘Had I known!’ I think your parents did a poor job because look at how you think! Eww!” Erica replied.
Erica’s story echoes the struggles of other Nigerian celebrities who have had strained relationships with their parents.
Jumoke George revealed how her parents’ divorce left her feeling abandoned, as her mother disowned her for choosing to stay with her father. However, her father’s new wife strained their relationship.
Charles Inojie shared how his mother left him at 8 months old, and his stepmother discouraged his father from supporting him, leaving him emotionally scarred.
Bimbo Ademoye disclosed that her mother abandoned her at the age of two. Despite the pain, she has made efforts to build a relationship and support her mother financially.
James Brown, the popular crossdresser, also praised his grandmother for raising him after being abandoned by his mother two days after birth. He later severed ties with his mother despite her attempts to reconnect.
