The Household of David, a popular Lagos church located at Adeniji Jones in Ikeja, was destroyed by fire on Wednesday, just hours before its annual conference.

The church’s multimillion-dollar auditorium, which housed thousands of people, was completely destroyed, leaving nothing to rescue.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services responded to the situation, stating that the fire began in the church’s ceiling and spread to the auditorium.

The church intended to conduct its Mercy Conference from January 31, 2024 to February 4, 2024, with notable pentecostal preachers such as Joshua Selman, Isaac Oyedepo, Godman Akinlabi, and Yemi Davids scheduled to speak.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed the incident.

According to the agency’s X account, personnel effectively doused the fire, which started at the back of the church.

NEMA stated that the incident remained unreported by church staff until it was brought to their attention by passersby.

“Thankfully, no injuries or casualties were reported. The church, leased and insured, had organised a 5-day crusade starting this evening and ending on February 4, 2024,” the statement read.
