It has been a tough period for Nollywood star, Ibrahim Chatta, following the news that he lost a son. The Yoruba actor had earlier shared the sad update on Instagram with a photo of the deceased, writing:

“Inna Lillahi wa inna ileyhi rajiun
Ya Allah, you are the knower of all things.
Rest on, Dear son, champ.”

The post immediately drew an outpouring of sympathy from colleagues and fans. Actors like Jamiu Azeez, Joseph Momodu, and Ashabi sent in condolence messages, while many others prayed for the departed soul and comfort for the grieving family.

However, actress Opeyemi Aiyeola later stepped forward to set the record straight. She explained that Ibrahim Chatta did not lose his biological son but his godson, who was just as dear to him.

Sharing her sympathy, she wrote:

“Ibrahim Chatta didn’t lose his biological son but a godson, who is also like a son to him. May his pure soul continue to rest peacefully. It’s been an extremely emotional ride so far. God have mercy.”

Following her clarification, checks showed that Chatta himself re-edited his Instagram post to reflect that the deceased was his godson.

The tragic development comes shortly after Nollywood actress Peju Ogunmola and her husband, Omobolanle Sunday, lost their only child, Ayomikun, after a brief illness in Ibadan.

Nollywood has sadly witnessed several similar losses in recent years. Actor Francis Duru lost his son, Ifeanyi, last year and described him as a lion who fought bravely till the end. Comedian Aphrican Ace and his wife also lost their newborn in 2023, while skitmaker Olagunju Solomon Olamide, popularly known as Akika, announced the death of his son on Father’s Day that same year.
