Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna has shared his thoughts on today’s fame culture, emphasizing the dangers of clout-chasing. Taking to Instagram Stories, he expressed concerns about how many people are desperate to gain attention, often resorting to extreme measures that lack substance or sustainability.
Ogbonna highlighted the varied ways individuals chase clout in today’s world:
-
Some use money to buy attention.
-
Others tear down established names to climb the social ladder.
-
Many rely on being loud and controversial for recognition.
He warned that such pursuits often lead to fleeting fame without a solid foundation, making it difficult to maintain relevance in the long term.
“Forced fame might get you quick recognition and momentary hype, but it rarely lasts. There’s no solid foundation, just mine. The pressure to stay relevant becomes overwhelming, and the same internet that crowned you today can cancel you tomorrow,” Ogbonna remarked.
The actor stressed the importance of building a legacy rooted in truth, talent, and consistency, as opposed to chasing clout for temporary validation. He concluded that fame without purpose fades, while fame built on authenticity and hard work leaves a lasting impact.
Ogbonna’s statement echoes similar sentiments shared by other Nigerian celebrities.
Mary Njoku recently called for more accountability, lamenting the rise of “keyboard warriors” who seek temporary fame instead of addressing issues directly.
Ayo Makun, the comedian, spoke about the pitfalls of social media, where ignorance is often celebrated, and wisdom is met with backlash.
Last year, Mary Njoku posed an important question to celebrities, asking them to consider life after stardom. She reminded them that no one stays at the top forever, urging them to build real lives outside their fame to avoid regret once their spotlight fades.
