IK Ogbonna Speaks on Modern Marriages, Power Struggles, and Ego Battles in African Homes

Nollywood actor IK Ogbonna speaks on modern marriages and the silent battles many couples face behind closed doors. Taking to his Instagram story, the actor opened up about how power struggles between African men and strong, independent women often turn admiration into conflict.

According to the actor, most African men are raised to lead but aren’t taught how to lead when their partner is also a leader. On the flip side, many successful women are taught to guard their independence but not how to be vulnerable without losing themselves.

He explained that what usually begins as mutual admiration — where a man is drawn to a woman’s strength and the woman is attracted to the man’s confidence — gradually turns into ego clashes.

Ego meets ego. Pride meets independence. Culture meets ambition,” he wrote.

IK noted that these unspoken tensions often create distance, resentment, and emotional disconnect in many homes.

“Many couples don’t drift apart because they don’t love each other,” he added.
“They drift because no one taught them how to love each other’s strengths without feeling threatened.”

He wrapped up the message by calling attention to how these emotional wars go unaddressed, leading to silent breakups in many marriages.

In other news, the actor previously shared his thoughts on the obsession with fame. He said clout has become the new currency, with people chasing relevance by all means , even if it’s fake. He warned that forced fame may bring momentary attention but can’t stand the test of time.
