Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma on Wednesday signed into law the new retirement age of 65 or 40 for state-employed teachers.

Teachers in the state retired after 35 years of service or at the age of 60.

After signing the bill into law, Uzodimma remarked that the new law would stimulate instructors in the state’s public schools.

He said:

“Having given the teachers an extra five years, they are expected to bring out their time and work harder to give Imo children the best form of teaching and learning and graduate them as the best in Nigeria.”

He referred to the gesture as “value addition” and pushed the instructors to be more dedicated and serious about their employment.

Uzodimma praised them, saying the “law is intended to encourage teachers to have a sense of job security and to be more effective and efficient in their duties.”
