The Zamfara State Government has announced that cars and motorbike riders would no longer be able to purchase bread loaves on motorcycles or fuel in jerry cans for security reasons.

Following the state security council meeting at Government House, Gusau, Commissioner of Information and Culture Mannir Muazu Haidara briefed reporters, explaining that the resolution of the council was made due to the unscrupulous actions of certain filling stations that have been selling bread and petrol in jerry cans to suspected bandits in certain rural communities within the state.

In his words:

“The Council observed with dismay over the attitudes of some filling stations, bakeries, and bread sellers in some rural areas of the state who are using vehicles and motorcycles to sell petroleum products and breads to some allegedly suspected armed bandits, we advised them to desist from the acts.”

He also highlighted that the council has prohibited the use of tinted glass, number plate covering, and sirens by some persons operating illegal cars, and urged security services to arrest and prosecute violators.

Haidara recommended motorists who have not registered their car number plates with appropriate government entities to do so immediately, as concerned authorities, in partnership with security forces, are required to apprehend and prosecute defaulters.

The commissioner also reported that security services had recovered some livestock from bandits, and he urged residents whose cattle had been rustled to come forward with supporting proof and reclaim their rustled animals when the legal process had been completed.
