Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has responded to the N500 million lawsuit filed against her by singer Naira Marley. The actress, known for her fearless demeanor, addressed the situation in a statement posted on her social media.
In her response, Iyabo Ojo expressed her surprise that the lawsuit was being disseminated online without the courtesy of a private service. She emphasized that she looks forward to hearing from Naira Marley’s legal team and requested proper legal proceedings.
Iyabo Ojo had also filed a counterclaim against the singer, asserting that she was not served the lawsuit by hand or through mail, raising concerns about potential blackmail. In her counterclaim, the actress is demanding N1 billion from Naira Marley for what she describes as deliberately misleading the public.
The lawsuit initiated by Naira Marley accuses Iyabo Ojo of defamation, alleging that the actress published false and malicious content about him on her Instagram page. However, Iyabo Ojo stands firm in her response, indicating her readiness to address the matter through appropriate legal channels.
Earlier, Iyabo Ojo’s daughter, Priscilla Ojo, defended her mother against the lawsuit, highlighting Naira Marley’s unresolved issues with Mohbad’s catalog and unpaid royalties. Priscilla criticized the singer for filing a lawsuit against her mother while facing allegations of mistreatment toward Mohbad.
Iyabo Ojo’s lover, Paul Okoye, also supported her, stating that her comments did not defame Naira Marley’s character. He affirmed that if the issue cannot be resolved amicably, they would proceed to settle it in a law court.
Amidst the legal battle, actress Ufuoma McDermott praised Iyabo Ojo for her intentional fight for justice, being a voice of reason, and demonstrating a perfect heart despite imperfections. She expressed utmost respect for Iyabo Ojo and commended her for standing up for what is right.
