American rapper Nicki Minaj is trending once again, thanks to a pose she struck 12 years ago in the 2013 music video for High School featuring Lil Wayne. In the iconic scene, Nicki squats with her legs crossed, a posture that has made a dramatic return on TikTok with celebrities and fans hopping on the challenge.
Joining the trend, Jane Mena upped the stakes by recreating the pose while squatting on a chair in heels—and simultaneously breastfeeding her toddler. Her version was anything but ordinary.
A clip posted online shows the dancer balancing on two dumbbells as she nails the pose and nurses her child. The video quickly spread across social media, earning praise for both her creativity and strength.
“One thing with Jane is that once she jumps on a trend, she adds extra. I love it,” a fan commented.
“She said viral pose—nah, she made it terminal,” another wrote.
“Challenge closed, she won,” one user declared.
In the same spirit, Nigerian crossdresser James Brown also embraced the challenge. He was spotted squatting on a pile of blocks, one leg crossed over the other, striking a pose while wearing heels.
This isn’t James’ first rodeo when it comes to mimicking global stars. Last year, he paid homage to Beyoncé with a metallic-themed birthday shoot, recreating one of her iconic outfits as her music played in the background.
Other Nigerian celebrities have also taken turns channeling international icons. Earlier this year, skitmaker Kiekie turned heads when she styled herself after Beyoncé and asked fans to rate the look.
During International Women’s Day in 2023, BBNaija star Nengi Hampson recreated one of Nicki Minaj’s red carpet looks—a tight red dress that highlighted her curves and earned widespread praise.
Even DJ Cuppy joined the wave, drawing attention when she dressed up as Hannah Montana in a pink outfit and posed with bundles of euros. While her look sparked debate, it showed once again that Nigerian stars love a global challenge.
