Former Chelsea and England captain, John Terry, was left astonished by John Obi Mikel’s remarkable performance during the charity match between Chelsea Legends and Bayern Munich Legends at Stamford Bridge. Mikel, who was part of the starting lineup alongside Michael Essien and Jody Morris, contributed to Chelsea Legends’ dominant 4-0 victory.
Chelsea’s iconic players, including Essien, Terry himself, Gary Cahill, and Tiago Mendes, found the back of the net in a match held in honor of former Chelsea player and manager Gianluca Vialli, who passed away in January. However, it was Mikel’s display that left a lasting impression on Terry.
Despite retiring from professional football three years ago, Mikel displayed intelligent movement and precision passing during the match. Impressed by Mikel’s performance, Terry took to Instagram to send a message to the Nigerian midfielder, suggesting that he still possesses the skills to continue playing professionally.
Terry jokingly proposed that Mikel consider coming out of retirement and explore the possibility of playing in Saudi Arabia. Mikel officially retired in 2021, concluding a career that saw him represent clubs like Lyn Oslo, Chelsea, Tianjin TEDA, Middlesbrough, Trabzonspor, and Stoke City.
Mikel, a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner, boasts an impressive trophy cabinet, including two Premier League titles, four FA Cups, two League Cups, and UEFA Champions League and Europa League victories during his time with Chelsea.
