A midnight fire has destroyed over 50 stores and property valued at N150 million at the Yan Katako Market in the Rijiyar Lemu neighbourhood of the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

Alhaji Mamuda Abdullahi, the market chairman, told reporters that the fire began on Monday at one in the morning.

He emphasised that more than fifty businesses that had foam, plywood, spray equipment, chairs, and other carpentry supplies were destroyed in the fire.

The chairman stated that the incident’s cause was yet unknown.

Nonetheless, he praised the Kano State Fire Service members for their swift action.

He urged the state government and charitable organisations to assist them in light of the fact that many traders have lost their source of income.

Saminu Abdullahi, the State Fire Service’s public relations officer, verified the occurrence when contacted.

But he clarified that the fire impacted or partially destroyed a number of other stores in addition to entirely demolishing roughly 25 others.

“We received distress calls around 1am and our men were able to put out the fire around 2am,” Abdullahi added.
