In an electrifying performance on Thursday night, Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns scored a game-high 39 points, ultimately landing the 12th position on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. The Suns faced the Lakers in a thrilling contest that ended 100-95 in the Lakers’ favor.
Durant’s remarkable achievement came when he executed a challenging layup during the late stages of the fourth quarter against the Lakers. With this play, he soared past the legendary Hakeem Olajuwon in the record books, solidifying his status as one of the basketball greats.
Reflecting on this milestone, Durant expressed his admiration for Olajuwon and his own journey as a player. He said, “It’s always amazing to be amongst the greats.”
Durant’s scoring prowess has been nothing short of remarkable, with last season’s 1,366 points in just 47 games mirroring his performance in the ’21-’22 season when he accumulated 1,643 points in 55 games.
Looking ahead, Durant’s sights are set on surpassing Carmelo Anthony (28,289) to claim the 9th spot on the all-time scoring list. A season with 2,000 or more points could even propel him past Shaquille O’Neal (28,596) for the 8th position.
To reach the elite 30,000-point club, Durant still needs to amass 3,108 more points, a feat achieved by only a select few players in NBA history.
