Nollywood actor Adams Kehinde, popularly known as Lege Miami, has stirred up controversy with his recent advice to landlords regarding their responsibilities towards women.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, he urged landlords to start building shops and warehouses alongside residential properties to support women in business.
Lege Miami emphasized that men are no longer taking their wives abroad for vacations or relocations. Instead, he suggested that upon marriage, husbands should open supermarkets for their wives and provide them with any car of their choice, if financially capable. He warned those planning to take their wives overseas that they would end up regretting their decisions.
Landlords in the neighborhood, we need you to start building shops along with the houses you are building. Shops and warehouses, which can be used as big supermarkets and mini-marts for women at home. We are no longer taking our women overseas. Once they get married, they aren’t going abroad again. We would open a big supermarket for you, and any car you want, your husband will buy it for you. Those of you who are saving to take your wife overseas will end up crying. So landlords, help us to build shops,” he stated.
However, his comments were met with backlash, with many netizens deeming his statements misogynistic. Reactions included:
- Ashake Coddles: “It is how we laugh at misogynistic comments demeaning women like this one, but again, it’s saddening as I sometimes wonder how these guys were raised to speak vile against women so bad.”
- Kkitan__: “This guy always talks like apoda.”
- Taaatibig: “It’s a man that doesn’t treat his wife well that would be scared to take his wife abroad. A woman is better treated over there. Zero abuse.”
- Callme Anilanry_DMW: “Adviser isonu.”
- Omoyemeh_special: “Mumu Boy.”
In a previous video, Lege had advised women on the importance of early marriage, highlighting the changes in societal norms and how women aged 35 now experience menopause. He warned ladies to drop their egos and recognize the scarcity of men.
In an interview on TVC’s Your View, Lege also shared insights into his personal life, revealing that he has two children with a woman he deemed incompatible and that he has never been married. Although he is currently dating, he stated he doesn’t consider himself to be in a serious relationship due to his intolerance for nonsense.
Two years ago, the Yoruba actor found himself in a heated Instagram Live altercation with a foreigner over a woman. He alerted one of his friend’s girlfriends, who was from the U.S., about his scamming habits, which led to a public fallout between the two men.
