Nollywood actress and comedienne Adeyela Adebola, popularly known as Lizzy Jay, has offered words of encouragement to slim women. Taking to Instagram, the comic star addressed societal pressures and bullying directed at women over their body shapes.
Lizzy pointed out the irony of society’s obsession with slimness, highlighting the lengths people go to achieve a slim figure:
“Dear Slim women, or ‘Dry,’ or whatever the society chooses to call you, have you seen the rate at which people use Monjaro (or is it Kilimanjaro, you people call it) and Ozempic to get slim? Have you seen the rate at which people drink all sorts of mixtures to get slim? Don’t let anybody pressure or bully you. Most importantly, don’t let anybody bully you; oloriburuku ni opolopo ninu won.”
The actress shared the heartfelt message alongside behind-the-scenes pictures from the movie set Erimorara by @davidakandestudios.
This message comes shortly after Lizzy confronted a troll who body-shamed her. The comedienne fired back at the critic, flipping the narrative and body-shaming the troll in return. She reminded her followers that she wouldn’t tolerate any form of online trolling, especially from those who looked, in her words, like “rejected sacrifices.”
Lizzy Jay has consistently stood against societal pressures and stereotypes about women’s bodies. In a previous post, she defended celebrities like Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham, noting how they inspire others without resorting to physical alterations.
In 2022, the actress shared a spiritual struggle affecting her appetite, pleading for forgiveness from anyone she might have wronged. She also publicly apologized to a fan after unintentionally failing to appreciate their kind gesture during an outing.
