Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe opens up about her parenting journey, the trials of single motherhood, and the strength of her bond with her daughter, Michelle.

While speaking at the premiere of My Mother Is A Witch, Mercy Aigbe shared a heartfelt story about a moment that shaped her parenting perspective. She recounted an incident where she hit her daughter, Michelle, with a bucket during her childhood. Years later, Michelle confessed that the memory had traumatized her, prompting Mercy to reflect on the impact of her parenting style.

I was shocked when my daughter told me she was traumatised by an incident from her childhood. I had to apologise and reflect on how we, as African parents, often let pride stop us from acknowledging our mistakes. It’s time for us to have meaningful conversations with our kids and address the unresolved childhood traumas affecting many adults today,” she said.

Mercy also reflected on her struggles as a single mother. She recalled moments of financial hardship, including being unable to afford a second ticket to accompany Michelle to school in Canada. Despite the challenges, she expressed gratitude for overcoming those difficult times and praised Michelle for becoming the strong, inspiring woman she is today.

Mercy frequently shares her pride in Michelle’s accomplishments. During Michelle’s graduation in 2023, Mercy reflected on their journey and applauded herself for raising a queen. She described three hidden qualities about Michelle that make her exceptional and assured her of unwavering support.
