Nigerian gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has released an official statement addressing her ongoing legal and personal dispute with her former record label boss and music producer, Ezekiel ThankGod, popularly known as Eezee Conceptz.
In a heartfelt press release shared on her Instagram page, Mercy detailed her professional journey with Eezee Conceptz, which began as a background singer and evolved into a client-producer relationship. She revealed that in 2019, Eezee proposed extending her five-year contract to 12 years, a request she declined due to other plans.
Mercy recounted how the relationship turned toxic in her fourth year under the label, with Eezee frequently leveraging the contract to exert control. She alleged that Eezee verbally and emotionally abused her with statements like:
-
“I will deal with you.”
-
“I made you who you are.”
-
“I can destroy your career.”
Mercy claimed Eezee’s actions included isolation, intimidation, and misrepresentation of her availability for events. Contrary to accusations, Mercy clarified that her lawsuit was not to claim ownership of her music catalog but to demand transparency regarding her 2017 contract, which she alleges was altered.
In response, Eezee Conceptz accused Mercy of manipulating institutions to bully him, despite receiving $625,000 from his label. He alleged that Mercy weaponized religious organizations and law enforcement to gain control over her music catalog. Eezee expressed frustration at what he perceived as hypocrisy, pointing out the contrast between Mercy’s gospel music and her actions.
Mercy Chinwo’s departure from Eezee Conceptz in 2022 was marked by public disputes and social media unfollowing between her, Eezee, and other labelmates like Minister GUC. Following the split, cryptic posts and alleged indirect remarks on social media further fueled speculation of a bitter fallout.
Veteran actress Hilda Dokubo indirectly criticized Mercy, accusing her of “biting the fingers that fed her.” Similarly, music producer Dr. Roy shared an incident where Mercy allegedly refused to assist him during his father’s health crisis, highlighting strained relationships within the industry.
