Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, widow of the late Nigerian singer Mohbad, has written an open letter to her father-in-law following the withdrawal of another legal representative from the DNA case concerning her son.
In her Instagram story, Wunmi stated that her father-in-law could engage as many lawyers as he desired, even from outside the country, but the truth of the DNA test remains unchangeable. She expressed pity for him, noting that those who stand by the truth have no need to run, hide, or constantly change legal representation.
According to her, she and her lawyers have cooperated fully with the legal process since the case began. She emphasized that they never objected to a DNA test and have consistently shown up and followed every court directive. Wunmi accused her father-in-law’s side of delaying the case despite being the ones who initially demanded the test.
She wrote:
“Another lawyer, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has withdrawn from the DNA case. To my father-in-law, you can get as many lawyers as you want from anywhere in the world; one thing is certain—you can’t manipulate this DNA. I’m sorry.
When people are confident in truth, they don’t run or hide. They don’t switch lawyers every month or ignore court calls. We have cooperated from day one. We have never opposed a DNA test. We showed up, we waited, and we followed the law.
The only people delaying the process are the same ones who requested it. No one can manipulate the court, and no one can manipulate science. Let the truth speak—for Liam, for Mohbad, and for justice. November 11 is around the corner. We will be there again.”
Last month, a Magistrate Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, ordered that a deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test be conducted on Liam, the son of the late singer. Mohbad’s father had requested the test, arguing that clarity on paternity was crucial for the child’s welfare and maintenance.
Wunmi’s legal team did not oppose the request, leading the court to grant the order. However, the proceedings were later adjourned to November 11, 2025.
Following Mohbad’s death in 2023, several Nigerians—including the late singer’s father—have repeatedly called for a DNA test to confirm Liam’s paternity.
Earlier in January, Wunmi’s lawyers accused Mohbad’s father of avoiding the process while publicly misrepresenting her stance on the issue. They demanded an apology and criticized him for tarnishing both Wunmi’s image and her son’s identity through unverified claims.
