Nigerian skit maker and actor Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr. Macaroni, has shared his experience of facing financial recklessness that left him in debt of over half a billion naira.

In a candid post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Mr. Macaroni recounted a difficult chapter of his life during 2021/2022. He revealed that a combination of a scam and a failed investment wiped out his savings, pushing him into severe financial hardship. To stay afloat, he resorted to borrowing money from multiple sources, which spiraled into a debt crisis due to mounting interest rates and financial mismanagement.

The skit maker admitted he underestimated the implications of borrowing, believing his substantial income could easily cover repayments. However, he found himself stuck in a cycle of paying off interest with new earnings, compounded by his long-standing habit of financial recklessness.

Please don’t borrow money! But if you must, be responsible,” he advised.

Highlighting his turning point, Mr. Macaroni shared how 2024 became a year of transformation for him. Despite battling emotional and financial struggles, his acting career soared, with two films he featured in gaining international recognition.

The entertainer also reflected on the betrayal of someone he considered a close friend and sister, describing it as one of the most destabilizing moments of his life. Yet, his resolve to fight back never wavered.

You see, one thing about me is that I’m a warrior! I never back down from a fight. When I fall, I bounce back even stronger by God’s grace,” he said, expressing gratitude to family and friends who supported him during his darkest moments.

He concluded his message with an encouragement to others:

Do not give up! You are alive for a reason. Every day of your life, you must fight to be a better person than yesterday.”
