Oyo State Government has filed 18 criminal charges against Naomi Silekunola, the former wife of the Ooni of Ife, Alhaji Oriyomi Hazmat, and the Principal of Islamic High School, Abdulahi Fasasi, following the tragic incident during a charity event organized in December.

The event, intended to feed the less privileged, resulted in a horrific stampede that claimed the lives of over 32 children.

Naomi, who is the mother of the crown prince, collaborated with Agidigbo 88.7 FM, Ibadan, owned by Hazmat, to organize the event. However, the occasion turned disastrous when the crowd became uncontrollable, leading to the loss of young lives. Naomi and Hazmat were arrested and subsequently remanded at the Agodi Correctional Facility after being arraigned on charges of conspiracy, manslaughter, criminal negligence, and failure to provide adequate security and medical facilities during the event.

The charge sheet detailed that the accused failed to implement necessary crowd control measures and security protocols, which were crucial to ensuring the safety of those in attendance. These offenses are punishable under Sections 308 and 344 of the Criminal Code, CAP 38, Vol 11, Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The news has caused an outpouring of disappointment and concern from Naomi’s supporters and fans. Many have expressed disbelief, with some suggesting that there may be deeper issues at play.

One fan, Oyinlomo Diamond, remarked, “This is beyond normal,” while another, Boldnbeautifulhub, shared their sadness, writing, “Jeez this particular news saddens me.” Nike Tojo speculated, “There’s probably more to this,” reflecting a sense of mystery surrounding the incident.

On the other hand, The King Shubart strongly believed that the situation was orchestrated against Naomi, adding, “Some people are behind this, but the Lord will show up for them.”

Upon hearing the news, the Ooni of Ife, Naomi’s former husband, expressed his condolences to the families of the victims, emphasizing Naomi’s character and her history of organizing charitable events during her time as a queen.

Several celebrities also voiced their support for Naomi during this difficult time. Actor Adeniyi Johnson prayed for God’s guidance, recognizing the kindness and generosity of the people of Ondo State. He expressed his hope that Naomi would emerge stronger from this ordeal.

Actress Biola Bayo reflected on Naomi’s good intentions, using the situation as a prayer point. She hoped Naomi’s desire to bring joy to others wouldn’t lead to more trouble. Comedian Woli Agba shared his belief that Naomi’s fate is in God’s hands and prayed for her vindication, hoping the glory of God would shine brighter through the situation.

The legal proceedings against Naomi Silekunola, Oriyomi Hazmat, and Abdulahi Fasasi have left many in shock, especially given the tragic consequences of a well-meaning charity event. As the case unfolds, many are calling for justice while praying for Naomi’s strength and clarity in the face of these severe charges.
