Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has weighed in on the viral video depicting a female student of Lead British school bullying her classmate, expressing both admiration for the victim’s composure and concern over the incident’s implications.
Taking to his Instagram page, Ugboma commended the restraint shown by the victim in the face of provocation, emphasizing the importance of addressing such abuse decisively.
It gives me great joy to know that we still have well-raised children in Nigeria. Children who are soft, meek, and civil. Children who, under the deadliest of provocation, still keep their calm. Though the girl in question may have been afraid, she didn’t coil, she didn’t whimper. She didn’t beg. I admire her.
However, it is left for the authorities to magnify this abuse and deal with it decisively. It should serve as a warning to others.”
Ugboma underscored the necessity of counseling for the bullied girl to mitigate potential trauma, emphasizing the importance of nurturing non-violent behavior from childhood. He also addressed these retaliatory actions of a relative captured in the video, cautioning against resorting to jungle justice and stressing the need for civil discourse.
Lastly, I saw the video of the relative who slapped the bully. She acted in fury, but by the definition of law, she acted in retaliation. While I understand the outrage and her anger, let’s not forget that these are the issues. Slapping somebody across the face is a no. Nothing civil about it. We must start to preach this across the board and we must emphasize the criminality of jungle justice”.
In addition to Ugboma’s commentary, writer and Twitter influencer also criticized the prevalence of jungle justice in Nigeria, advocating for the authorities to handle such cases.
