Veteran Nollywood actor Don Richard has spoken out about his financial struggles, health challenges, and how they have affected his family life.
In a candid conversation with actress Biola Bayo on her podcast, Talk to B, the actor revealed that he has lost everything and is now left alone after his wife walked away due to his current condition. Don Richard admitted that he has battled suicidal thoughts and even asked his estranged wife to take care of their children should anything happen to him.
Narrating his ordeal, he disclosed that he sold his car for ₦1.5 million and spent eight months trekking long distances across Lagos—from Bariga to Chemist, Unilag, Iwaya, Sabo, Yaba, and Ojuelegba—just to survive.
My kidney is failing, and I have been told I need ₦30 million for treatment,” he said emotionally. “I told my wife, ‘Mummy twins, another man is lucky to have you,’ because I felt like my time was near. She avoids me now because I’m broke. People prepare for good times in marriage, but not many prepare for when things go bad.”
The actor shared how a doctor’s diagnosis left him terrified and struggling to figure out how to raise funds for treatment. A close friend recently offered to find him a temporary shelter to help him rest and recover.
Earlier this year, Don Richard revealed that two years after quitting smoking and drinking, he unexpectedly started battling severe health problems. He advised people not to assume they are healthy simply because they feel fine outwardly.
