Nollywood actors Nosa Rex and Adanma Luke have publicly responded to their colleague Ruby Ojiakor’s accusations related to the death of Junior Pope.
Ruby, who was close to the late actor, criticized Rex and Luke for their alleged actions and attitudes following Pope’s passing.
Ruby took to Instagram to call out Baba Rex and Adanma Luke, the producer of the movie during which Junior Pope tragically died. She accused Baba Rex of using Pope’s death as content on social media and alleged that Adanma Luke was more concerned with discussing how Pope had begged her for a job instead of properly grieving him.
In response, Nosa Rex addressed Ruby directly, urging her to respect herself and avoid provoking him. He clarified that the video he posted, which depicted a movie director forcing him to perform a dangerous stunt, was meant to highlight real on-set dangers to other actors, not to chase clout. Despite feeling that he owed no explanation, Rex expressed understanding of Ruby’s grief over losing Junior Pope.
Rex’s statement read:
Dear Ruby, normally I don’t owe any explanation for the video. But I will let you know so that people will read. That video was a real situation on set. I refused to enter the water and they had to change the entire script. I was trying to pass a message, and I am sure some people saw the message. But if you love JP too much, you decided to call me out. Madam, respect yourself, try not to piss me off. I won’t warn you again. For the people who really know me, I be content myself, I no dey chase am.”
Adanma Luke also took to Instagram to address Ruby’s accusations. She pointed out what she saw as hypocrisy in Ruby’s actions, suggesting that Ruby was the one using Pope’s death for clout. Adanma expressed that although God knows her heart, she chose not to escalate the situation out of respect.
Adanma’s statement reads:
The one that carries a camera everywhere she goes. The real content creator. Only God sees our hearts but for now, I won’t push further because you no reach. I have had worse things from better people.”
Additionally, Uche Ogbodo, another Nollywood actress, defended Rex and Adanma. She emphasized that people mourn differently and that Ruby should not accuse others without understanding their true feelings. Ogbodo reiterated that everyone loved Junior Pope and was affected by his death.
Stanley Ontop, another colleague, expressed relief that others were finally acknowledging the issues he had previously highlighted. He stressed the importance of fighting against preventable deaths, referencing his late colleague.
