Ogun: NDLEA Arrests 181 Suspects, Recovers 3 Pistols

The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Ogun State, has detained 181 alleged drug traffickers and recovered three guns in the previous five months in the state.

According to the agency, they were able to obtain 33 convictions during the time period under review.

The state Commander, Ibiba Odili, announced this in Abeokuta, during an event in commemoration of the 2023 United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and illegal drug trafficking with the theme: ‘People first: Stop Stigma, and Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention’.

She said that the NDLEA had brought the fight to the doorsteps of drug traffickers with its operation, which resulted in the arrest of certain suspects, the recovery of firearms, and the seizure of hard narcotics.

She stated, “The command has made the arrest of 181 suspects who comprise 147 male suspects and 34 female suspects from February till date. The command also recovered three locally-made pistols during operations in different parts of the state and we have handed them over to the police”.

She said that throughout the review period, they seized 3,14151 tonnes of narcotics, including 9.4259kgs of psychotropic substances, 29.8g of cocaine, 1,446.5 litres of skuches, 7.65 litres of codeine, and 1.8906kgs of methamphetamine.

In terms of prosecution, Odili stated that the command has charged 60 cases and achieved 33 convictions, with six girls and 27 males among those convicted.
