Former France captain, Patrick Vieira, has been appointed as the new head coach of Strasbourg. Vieira has signed a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 side.
The 47-year-old takes over for Frederic Antonetti, who was fired last week after the squad finished 15th, two spots and five points above the danger zone for relegation.
“I welcome Patrick Vieira, whom I know from the French national team; I am very happy to welcome him to Strasbourg.
“He corresponds to the profile we were looking for a manager with international experience, and who also has a good knowledge of Ligue 1 and its young players,” Marc Keller, Strasbourg’s president, said in a statement on the club website.
Vieira has been out of a job since he was dismissed at Crystal Palace towards the end of the last season.
