Nigerian music sensation Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy, recently took to social media to mock Nollywood filmmakers for their lack of attention to detail. Highlighting an editing error in a movie, where a crew member holding a microphone was visibly included in the scene, Paul expressed disappointment at the oversight.

Sharing a clip of the glaring mistake on his Instagram story, Rudeboy criticized the filmmakers for failing to notice the error before releasing the film. He called out the mediocrity and urged better standards in Nollywood productions.

The post quickly went viral, sparking reactions from fans and critics alike:

  • “Microphone man is a star.” – Lorenzo Menakaya
  • “I don’t think they watch the movie before putting it out.” – Abiodun Website Developer
  • “Tomorrow dem go say them no add the movie to Netflix.” – Symply Beautiana

This isn’t the first time Nollywood has come under scrutiny for production blunders. In 2023, actress Wumi Toriola trended when a scene from her film showcased her changing wigs mid-shot. The producers, Mide Martins and Afeez Owo, later apologized, attributing the error to the editing crew.

Similarly, Toni Payne, a renowned photographer, has criticized Yoruba filmmakers for consistently delivering movies with poor audio quality. She questioned why such issues persist despite advancements in technology.

Veteran actor Kanayo Kanayo and actress Debbie Shokoya have also called for higher standards in Nollywood. Kanayo criticized low-quality movies being uploaded to YouTube, which he believes dilute the industry’s reputation. Debbie, on the other hand, urged filmmakers to change the negative narrative surrounding Yoruba films by ensuring every department performs its role effectively.

Media personality Daddy Freeze once tackled veteran actor Nkem Owoh for claiming Nollywood is on par with international productions. Daddy Freeze argued that the industry has a long way to go and called for honest evaluations to drive improvement.
