Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has shared his thoughts on the 67th Grammy Awards, making bold statements about his music and collaborations. His remarks come after Nigerian artist Tems won the Best African Music Performance award, dedicating her victory to her mother.
In a series of Instagram posts, Portable stressed that being nominated for a Grammy does not equate to winning one. The singer expressed his ambition to secure the prestigious award and confidently declared that any artist who collaborates with him would inevitably achieve Grammy success.
He said,
Feature me if you want to collect Grammy. Drop verse for me, I get chorus. Ordinary woman collected the Grammy from you people.”
Portable criticized Nigerian artists who failed to win at the Grammys, noting that Tems, a female artist, had surpassed them in securing the award. He also commented on Asake’s appearance at the ceremony in a military uniform, suggesting the event was about celebrating achievements, not conflict.
The Zeh Nation leader pointed out that collaborations like his track with Skepta, Tony Montana, and the viral hit Zazu featuring Olamide should be submitted for Grammy consideration. Portable emphasized his self-reliance and hard work, attributing his rise to divine support rather than external help.
Olamide picked me and I came out from nowhere, nobody rise me, God is my pioneer,” he said. “I’m telling you, if not that you neglected me, I would have won Grammy.”
In his video montage, Portable captioned:
Failure is not an option for me. I don’t have backup; I am the backup. That’s why I am working hard. I believe in my phone and sub. Any disappointment is a blessing.”
Portable’s statements have sparked discussions across social media, with some fans applauding his confidence and others questioning the feasibility of his claims.
As Portable continues to make headlines with his bold assertions, it remains to be seen whether his ambitious Grammy goals will materialize. For now, his confidence and determination keep him in the spotlight.
