Controversial Nigerian singer Portable is no stranger to drama, and his trip to Canada proved no exception.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, the singer recounted an altercation with a man at a Canadian mall. Portable claimed that the individual, who organized the Regina show, had nearly hit him with a car before they entered the mall. According to Portable, the issue began when he refused the man’s request to promote his business for free.
Inside the mall, things escalated further. The man allegedly approached Portable while he was shopping, insisting he take pictures with every fan who approached him. Portable refused, saying he was simply enjoying his private time. This led to threats of violence from the man, who allegedly told Portable he would slap and beat him.
Portable revealed that the situation turned physical, involving his DJ, @djchelsea.official, and his Canadian promoter, @ajbone1. Both were reportedly assaulted during the incident. Security intervened and urged Portable to press charges, which he said the police were handling.
Before we entered the mall, I was walking toward the door when this organizer drove right in front of me. If I didn’t step back, he would have hit me because I refused to promote his business for free. Inside the mall, he came up to me while I was shopping with my DJ and demanded I take pictures with every fan. When I refused, he threatened to slap and beat me,” Portable explained in his video.
The singer, known for his chaotic public persona, added that he reminded the man he is both a gangster and a superstar from Nigeria.
Since his debut in the music industry, Portable has gained notoriety for his frequent altercations and unfiltered behaviour.
Last month, activist Very Dark Man called for Portable’s arrest after he allegedly assaulted a man in a restroom during the Felabration event in Lagos. Responding to the call, Portable warned the activist about the difference between online and real-life confrontations.
In September, Portable made headlines for slapping a pastor during a live Instagram session. The singer claimed he practices African traditional religion and confronted the preacher, accusing him of disturbing his peace.
In July, Portable was involved in a street brawl with a bike rider in Lagos, accusing the man of stealing his phone. Viral videos showed the singer engaging in a fistfight before onlookers intervened.
Despite his growing fan base and talent, Portable’s controversies continue to overshadow his career, leaving fans divided about his actions.
