Princess Shyngle’s Bold Take on African Marriages

Gambian actress Princess Shyngle, also known for her past relationship with Nigerian superstar Burnaboy, recently shared her candid thoughts on marriage, leaving many in deep reflection.

Her post touched on the realities some women face in their marriages and the pressures of societal expectations.

Princess Shyngle wrote:

I honestly feel bad for so many women out there pretending to be in happy marriages when they’re genuinely unhappy and miserable, but coming online just to impress the world. It’s so sad. My prayer is that no single woman out there lets this get to them. I promise you, you’re happier and living a better life.”

She also offered a rare perspective on African marriages and emphasized the importance of self-happiness over societal pressure:

Don’t let society pressure you into marriage. Do it when it feels right. Trust me, I’ve been there before. So many of y’all are married to men who love other men. Some of y’all have not been touched by your man in months or years, and you know he likes men, but you’re staying in the relationship or marriage just to impress the world.”

Her thoughts on men being honest about their sexuality sparked even more conversation:

Men should start being honest about their sexuality, especially African men. If I tell you most of my gay and trans male friends are dating married African men or fake straight men, it’s alarming. We are living in the 21st century—be yourself, be honest with your female partners. Nobody cares, trust me!”

While Princess Shyngle’s bold statements resonated with many, some netizens had different opinions. A few questioned her relevance, while others disagreed with her views on marriage.

One user, @chioma_nwobi, commented, “That doesn’t change the fact that 70% of Nigerians are in happy marriages. I will be in one too. Make una rest.”

@official_teewealth responded, “This one is trying to push her failed attempt onto the younger generation. Woo, if you are reading this, your marriage will be blissful, beautiful, and peaceful.”

@naijalastborn simply added, “This babe still dey?”

@naijabossladyhairintl chimed in with, “It’s always the ones that are separated coming online to give us relationship advice. Hold am.”

Despite the mixed reactions, Princess Shyngle’s message about authenticity in relationships and the need to prioritize happiness over societal approval remains a strong conversation starter.
