Nigerian singer Joshua Iniyezo, better known by his stage name Solidstar, recently took to Instagram to shower praises on his girlfriend, whom he has been with for over a decade.
In an emotional post, Solidstar expressed deep admiration for her loyalty, acknowledging that she endured years of pain, tears, and heartbreak due to his actions. Despite the challenges, she never gave up on him, a testament to her unwavering love and commitment.
LOYAL! For over ten years, all she got from me was pain, tears, and heartbreak. But she never gave up on me,” Solidstar wrote, sharing photos of his long-time partner.
However, his post quickly became a topic of controversy as it sparked mixed reactions among his followers. While some admired her loyalty, others criticized Solidstar for seemingly glorifying the pain he caused her.
One user, Beauty Queen Maree, commented,
A typical definition of African men’s peace of mind.” Another user, Irish Sommie1, questioned, “If the tables turn, hope you won’t give up on her, too?” The sentiment of frustration was echoed by Original Ajumbaise, who wrote, “That’s what Nigerian men mean by peace of mind,” and another user, I Am Wendy, who asked, “So what’s the moral of this statement?”
The backlash continued as many users expressed their disdain for Solidstar’s pride in causing his partner pain.
And he’s proud to mention he caused her pain and tears,” commented amaaka.og, while Luchi_store1 added, “Na only with suffer head them dey use hail women for this part of the world. Pheew.”
Solidstar’s relationship is not the only aspect of his life that has faced public scrutiny. In 2019, the singer shared a harrowing experience where he overdosed on drugs, which led to severe health issues, including bleeding. He later apologized to anyone who might have been affected by his actions.
In 2022, Solidstar revealed more about his struggles with drug abuse, recounting how it nearly cost him his life. The singer’s battle with substance addiction took a toll on his mental health, leading to a withdrawal from the spotlight. Last year, his younger brother, Joseph Iniyezo, publicly appealed for help on Solidstar’s behalf, revealing that the singer was critically ill and battling mental illness.
Earlier this year, Solidstar opened up again about his battle with drug abuse, sharing a story about how hard substances led him into a delusional state, where he once trekked from Awoyaya, a part of Lagos mainland, to the Oriental Hotel on the Island, believing he was a King who didn’t need to pay for things.
