Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has advised Jurgen Klopp to prevent Mohamed Salah from rejoining the Egypt squad at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) once he regains full fitness. Salah, recovering from a muscle injury sustained in Egypt’s recent draw with Ghana, has returned to Liverpool for an intensive rehabilitation program as per the club’s agreement with the Egyptian federation.

While Klopp suggested Salah might return to international duty if he recovers in time for the AFCON final on February 11, Souness, considering Liverpool’s position atop the Premier League, urges caution. With Liverpool leading by five points over defending champions Manchester City, Souness emphasizes the need to handle Salah’s recuperation from hamstring injuries carefully.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Souness stated, “For Liverpool, they need to get Salah back and fit, and then he does not go back to Africa.” Highlighting the challenges of hamstring injuries, Souness expressed concern about the potential impact on a player’s recovery.

As Liverpool pursues a quadruple, Souness emphasizes the importance of keeping all key players, especially the top scorer Salah, in peak condition for the crucial stages of the season. Salah, leading Liverpool’s goal-scoring charts with 18 goals and nine assists, plays a pivotal role in their pursuit of football greatness.
