Nollywood actor Uche Maduagwu is urging May Edochie to take charge of her fan base and put an end to the social media trolling directed at her estranged husband, Yul Edochie, and his new wife, Judy Austin.
In a video shared on Instagram, Uche advised May to take a cue from actress Iyabo Ojo, who continues to use her ex-husband’s surname without encouraging disrespect toward him. According to Uche, Iyabo commands maturity, and her fans know better than to mock or attack her former spouse online.
He argued that if May cannot openly discourage the insults hurled at Yul by her supporters, she should consider removing his surname from her social media accounts. He went further to question whether keeping the “Edochie” name was tied to her popularity or brand endorsements.
In his words:
“Queen May, borrow wisdom from Iyabo Ojo. She still uses her ex’s name but her fans never attack him. If you can’t stop your fans from bullying the father of your kids, maybe it’s time to drop his name. Or is it that Yul’s name is behind the brand deals?”
Uche didn’t stop there. In a follow-up post, he appealed to May to act out of respect for her former father-in-law, the legendary Pete Edochie. He reminded her of how the respected actor once stood by her and never publicly supported Yul and Judy’s relationship. According to him, May could show leadership by making a public statement asking her fans to end the insults.
“Even if not for Yul, do it for Sir Pete Edochie. That man supported you. It costs nothing to post a video telling your fans to stop insulting Yul and the Edochie family. It’s time to lead by example.”
This sudden change of stance from Uche Maduagwu has caught many off guard, considering he previously threw his weight behind May during her separation from Yul. Last year, he heavily criticised Yul for calling himself the creator of the nickname ‘Nwunye Odogwu’, even comparing him to colleagues who were focused on celebrating their marriages rather than coining controversial titles.
He also called Yul out on Father’s Day, accusing him of hypocrisy for advising men against adultery despite having reportedly been involved with Judy Austin while she was still married. At the time, Uche praised May for her strength and endurance.
