Former Big Brother Naija housemate Uriel Oputa has won the hearts of Nigerians after offering to adopt a baby girl abandoned near the Niger Bridge in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.
According to reports from Kemi Filani, the child was discovered crying by the riverside and was found by a local community leader. Alongside the baby, some clothes, a wrapper, and other items were left behind, suggesting the child was intentionally abandoned. The community has since taken steps to inform the local authorities and ensure the child receives immediate care.
Moved by the news, Uriel responded in the comment section of a blog post covering the incident, saying, “Pls let me have her. She will never go hungry.” Her comment quickly spread across social media, drawing widespread admiration from the public.
Supporters flooded the post with encouragement. One user, Jahbae Solutions, wrote,
Please give Uriel. She’s capable and also a God-fearing lady with a heart of gold.” Another, Pretty Otibhor, commented, “Give Uriel. She wants the baby.” Others echoed the sentiment, saying the baby’s future would be secure in her care.
Uriel’s gesture didn’t come as a surprise to many, given her known history of caregiving. She has spoken openly about caring for her mother, who suffers from dementia. In previous posts, Uriel described the experience as both heartbreaking and rewarding, revealing how it taught her to forgive and let go of years of internal pain. She shared that each day presents new emotional challenges, but her love for her mother gives her the strength to keep going.
Back in 2022, Uriel shared a tearful reunion with her mother in London, calling her “my best friend” and posting a video that touched many of her followers.
Her recent offer to adopt the abandoned baby reinforces her reputation as someone who leads with compassion and empathy, always stepping in when love is needed most.
