Nigerian online critic Vincent Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has finally replied to Human Rights lawyer Femi Falana regarding the defamation case.
Recently, Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), appeared on Channels Television where he discussed the case against VeryDarkMan and promised to set a legal precedent with it.
Following Falana’s interview, which garnered significant public attention, VDM took to Instagram to release a video. He acknowledged the calls from people about the interview but emphasized that the matter goes beyond personal interests.
VDM clarified that the core of the case is about exposing corruption within the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He also reflected on his exposure of Bobrisky’s alleged corruption, which brought him under heavy scrutiny.
In his video, VDM stated:
To be honest, I refuse to make this about VeryDarkMan and the Falanas. It’s about exposing corruption that has deeply infiltrated our system. Someone committed an offense, and after a court judgment, a godfather intervened to keep the person from facing justice. I exposed this situation, and instead of addressing the real issues, they are focusing on me. If legal action must be taken, it should also involve Bobrisky.”
VDM reiterated his respect for Femi Falana, expressing that despite the ongoing legal case, he holds Falana in high regard. He also hinted that if they met in person, he would still greet the senior lawyer respectfully.
Furthermore, Seun Kuti, son of Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, also clarified his connection to the controversy. He explained that although he spoke with VDM about Bobrisky and the EFCC, he has no influence over VDM’s online actions or opinions.
In an audio call shared by VDM, Seun mentioned that while he does not agree with the way VDM has addressed the Falana family, he cannot control the online critic’s views or content. Seun also apologized to Femi Falana for any disrespect, emphasizing that the real focus should be on exposing corruption rather than personal disputes.
