Nigerian music icon Ayodeji Balogun, better known as Wizkid, has shared the touching reason behind the special bond he feels with his daughter.
Speaking during his Hollywood Bowl performance, the Afrobeats star revealed that God blessed him with a daughter who bears a striking resemblance to his late mother, Jane Dolapo Balogun, filling his life with immense love and solace.
Wizkid, who lost his mother in August 2023, described the resemblance between his daughter and his late mother as a divine gift, providing comfort in his grief. He emotionally stated, “God gave me a daughter who looks exactly like my mom to fill my heart with a whole lot of love.”
Earlier this month, Wizkid made his first public appearance with his 6-month-old daughter and her mother, Jada Pollock, at the New York premiere of his documentary. Fans were delighted to learn that the baby is named after Wizkid’s late mother, Morayo.
The loss of his mother has been a deeply painful experience for the Grammy winner. During her Night of Tribute, he gave an emotional speech, describing the void left by her passing as “the deepest pain” he has ever felt. Her burial ceremony was attended by notable figures, including Oba Elegushi, Tony Elumelu, and Banky W.
Wizkid also surprised fans with an impromptu appearance on comedian Shank’s livestream in Los Angeles. Known for his private lifestyle, the singer’s casual interaction with Shank highlighted his warm personality. The pair shared jokes, with Wizkid promising more light-hearted moments in the future.
