Nigerian singer Yemi Alade has opened up about her battle with depression, revealing that she once struggled to keep track of her real age.

In a recent chat with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the award-winning artist shared that for three years, she kept telling people she was 22, only to later realise she was actually 25, a discovery that left her mentally unsettled and depressed for days.

Speaking candidly, Yemi said the experience took a toll on her mental health, as her mind couldn’t process the reality of her true age.

“There was a time someone asked me my age, and I kept saying for three years I was 22. Then I realised I was 25 years old. I took out my phone and did the mathematics. I was depressed for a few days. My mind wasn’t taking it in. It was mental — for three years, I didn’t know my right age.”

Beyond her personal struggles, Yemi has also shared insights on relationships and personal growth. In a recent Instagram post, she reflected on how conflict often reveals the strength of relationships.

She wrote that until one quarrels with a friend or partner, they may never understand the true depth of that bond. She also encouraged people to recognise when to let go of toxic friendships or relationships, calling it a “life-saving intuition.”

Last year, Yemi Alade firmly debunked rumours that she had faced sexual harassment in the music industry. The Johnny crooner described the reports as “stupidity at its peak,” adding that she was baffled by how far some people would go to spread false stories.
