The Yoruba Nollywood community has been thrown into mourning following the passing of talented actress Omotola Odunsi.

Omotola, an emerging star in the industry, featured in several notable films including Lisabi alongside Lateef Adedimeji, as well as Amonata, Officer Adaeze, Ifedayo, and Ayanmo Ire. Details surrounding her cause of death have not yet been confirmed.

Friends and colleagues have expressed their grief on social media:

Actress Bakare Zainab wrote: “Goodnight Omotola, rest well.”

Portable’s babymama and actress Ashabi shared: “This one shock me aunty Tola. You were one of the best actors I rooted for. We planned to work together again, but you left before seeing your dreams fulfilled. GOD, we can’t question you. Death is deep.”

Other tributes read: “Such a hardworking lady, rest well,” and “Still hard to believe, but God understands better.”

This loss adds to a series of tragedies in Nollywood this year. In June, film producer Kayode Peters passed away in Canada, followed by the sudden death of actress Berry White in her home. In May, plus-sized model Monalisa Stephen died in Lagos due to complications from low blood sugar and internal bleeding. Earlier in March, veteran actress Nkechi Nweje died after a brief illness, while a month prior, veteran actor and academic Columbus Irisoanga also passed away.
