Nollywood actor and producer Yul Edochie has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of two cinematographers, Johnson and Gozman. The duo lost their lives in an accident along Port Harcourt road while returning from a colleague’s wedding, marking yet another heartbreaking loss for the Nigerian film industry.
Taking to Instagram, Yul Edochie shared a candlelight image, mourning the untimely deaths and lamenting the string of tragic losses within Nollywood. “Too many untimely deaths in Nollywood. Really Sad. R.I.P. to our fallen brothers. May God grant your families the strength to bear this painful loss,” he wrote.
The loss of Johnson and Gozman adds to the growing list of Nollywood stars who have passed away in recent months. Earlier this year, the industry mourned veteran actress Nkechi Nweje, who died after a brief illness, and Columbus Irisoanga, whose passing left colleagues like Hilda Dokubo heartbroken.
In 2024, the industry faced a wave of tragedies. Notable figures like Onyeka Onwenu, Stella Ikwuegbu, Dayo Adewunmi (Sule Suebebe), Zulu Adigwe, Junior Pope, Amaechi Muonagor, Ikechukwu Nnadi (Andy Best), Sisi Quadri, and Mr. Ibu all passed away, leaving an irreplaceable void in Nollywood.
Yul Edochie’s heartfelt tribute echoes the sentiments of many in the industry, calling for strength and unity during these challenging times. His words resonate with a community struggling to come to terms with the frequent losses of its talents.
