Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has sparked fresh conversations on spirituality after urging Igbos to activate traditional worship practices, declaring that ancestors are their true guardian angels.

Taking to his Twitter page, Yul likened Igbo ancestral spirits—Mmuo Ojukwu, Ogwugwu, Udo, and Akpu—to Christian angels Gabriel, Michael, and Raphael. He encouraged Igbos to practice Omenaani (traditional customs), assuring that these spirits would rise to defend them.

Our ancestors are our guardian angels. The spirits in Igbo Land, Mmuo Ojukwu, Ogwugwu, Udo, Akpu, etc., are our own Angel Gabriel, Angel Michael, Raphael, etc. Activate them by practising Omenaani and watch them fight your battles. Anyone planning your downfall will go down,” he wrote.

Recently, Yul defended deities, describing them as peaceful beings that only react when provoked. He also addressed misconceptions about faith, clarifying that one can be both a Christian and a traditionalist, as both paths ultimately serve the same God.

In July, Yul declared his return to Christian and traditional worship, revealing that God instructed him to rediscover his roots. According to the actor, reconnecting with traditional practices made him spiritually complete.
