The Zamfara State Government has again closed 11 livestock markets in the state indefinitely.

Munnir Haidara, the state Commissioner for Information, said the markets were closed due to security information that criminals were selling their rustled calves in the markets.

According to Haidara, the impacted markets are the Tsafe and Bilbis markets in the Tsafe Local Government Area; the Jangebe market in the Talata-Mafara Local Government Area; and the Wuya market in the Anka LGA.

Other markets include Magamin Diddi in Maradun LGA, Galadi in Shinkafi LGA, Mada in Gusau LGA, Sabon Birnin Danali, Kokiya, Chigama, and Nasarawar Godel all in Birnin Magaji LGA.

“The state government finds it absolutely necessary to close down these markets due to security reports that the bandits are patronising these markets to sell off their rustled cows,” according to the commissioner.

He stated that the state administration had instructed security personnel to enforce the order and arrest anyone who disobeyed it.

He said:

“Security personnel have since been directed to arrest any person found in these affected markets.”

Haidara urged the people of the state to obey the order and work with the state administration to cleanse the state of banditry.
