Seven Boko Haram terrorists in Konduga Council of Borno State have been neutralised by Troops of 222 Battalion, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK). The insurgents attempted to attack a military formation near Konduga trenches, 40 kilometres East of Maiduguri, the state capital.
A counter-insurgency expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, disclosed, yesterday, in Maiduguri, that the terrorists launched an attack with heavy gunfire on soldiers guarding the trenches at 06:45 p.m. on Friday.
According to him, the troops swiftly engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to withdraw in disarray.
On how the terrorists were neutralised, he said:
“In a show of gallantry, the troops, led by their Commander, chased the insurgents, who attempted to escape into the Sambisa Forest axis, and neutralised seven of them.”
A military source in Maiduguri also said-
“Our troops recovered a truck, an anti-aircraft gun and other weapons. No casualty was recorded on the side of our troops during the Konduga evening attack.”
Makama noted that there were wild celebrations by residents of Konduga, who came out to express their happiness over the successful operation.
Meanwhile, in a separate encounter, the troops also ambushed and eliminated five Boko Haram terrorists and recovered their weapons.
ALSO, Terrorists have killed a pastor and abducted his wife and several others in a Kaduna community.
The minister, who was in charge of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), Buda Two, Kasuwa Magani, in Kajuru Council of Kaduna State, Rev. Musa Mairimi, was shot dead by bandits when they invaded the community.
The state Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Joseph Hayab, who confirmed the incident, at the weekend, explained that the attackers stormed the community and killed the clergy in his residence.
Hayab lamented that the bandits also abducted the pastor’s wife.
According to him, over 100 people, who were abducted by the terrorists for over six months from council areas of Kauru, Jaba, Kachia, Kagarko and Kajuru, have regained their freedom.
He said-
“The insecurity, especially killing and kidnapping of innocent people is so disturbing that it is no longer news, because many are left to carry their crosses while many have been killed in by terrorists; many homes have been completely destroyed with valuables and nothing is being done to alleviate the sufferings of the common people affected.”
