17 killed in Indian railway bridge collapse

17 construction workers were killed when a railway bridge fell on Wednesday, in the eastern state of Mizoram in India, a number of workers were reported missing according to officials.

A metal frame fell from tall columns into a forested valley below in a video uploaded by Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga.

According to a policeman mentioned in the Indian Express newspaper, 17 dead have been found and “many others” are still missing. The reports of persons going missing couldn’t be immediately confirmed.

A total of 40 workmen were reportedly present when the bridge fell, according to the Hindu Daily, which cited state government authorities.
