The Golden Eaglets are off to Algeria for the 2023 Africa U-17 Cup of Nations. 26 players and technical crew members made the trip to the North African country for the competition.
The Eaglets are drawn in group B with Zambia, Morocco and South Africa.
After resuming camp in mid-March following the break for the general elections, the Eaglets played 12 friendly matches at their NFF/FIFA Goal Project, Abuja base, winning 11 of the matches and drawing the other one. They scored a total of 66 goals and conceded 14.
The Africa U17 Cup of Nations has been scheduled in Algeria from 8th – 30th April, from which the four top-placed teams will qualify to fly Africa’s flag at the FIFA U17 World Cup finals that will be staged in Peru from 10th November – 2nd December.
Nigeria is a five-time champion of the FIFA U17 World Cup. They have had triumphs in China (1985), Japan (1993), Korea Republic (2007), United Arab Emirates (2013) and Chile (2015).
Players and officials are scheduled to arrive in the Algerian city of Constantine on Sunday night. They will be there for their final preparations for the competition.
