Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, paid a visit to Nobel laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, on Sunday, May 7, in a bid to put aside political issues.
The visit comes weeks after Soyinka’s clash with “Obidients,” the supporters of Peter Obi and after Chimmanda’s public letter to Biden where she discounted Soyinka’s claims. Soyinka had accused the group of fascism and warned Obi that his supporters could cost him the election. He also described the Obidients as one of the “most repulsive, off-putting concoctions” he ever encountered in any political arena.
Despite the heated exchange, Obi paid Soyinka a courtesy visit and posted photos from the visit online. In his post, Obi expressed his admiration for Soyinka’s achievements and aspirations for a better Nigeria. He also acknowledged the Nobel laureate’s fight for justice and equity in society.
