A total of 44,845 homes in 17 local government areas of Yobe State were impacted by the flood catastrophe last year. This is according to the most recent data from the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).
The organisation said that throughout the challenging time, there was recordable wanton damage to lives and property. This heavily resulted in the relocation of hundreds of individuals in the impacted towns.
In light of this, Governor Mai Mala Buni gave his approval for the Special National Economic Livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELEI) in the state. They are to begin immediately after the validation and verification of registered flood victims for the 2022 floods.
According to SEMA, SNELEI is an intervention by the federal government created to help flood catastrophe victims in 2022.
The fund targeted more than 24,000 potential recipients in the state. The assistance is anticipated to take the shape of food, instruments for sustaining a livelihood, and crop seeds. Among other things, it will be given directly to the victims to increase their socioeconomic resilience.
The Agency noted, “The support, which is implemented by NEMA-SEMA, is predicated on the number of people affected by the 2022 flood and classified as most vulnerable.“Validation has since commenced across the LGAs”.
