Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has approved the appointment and redeployment of numerous additional senior officers throughout the nation’s formations and units, including Major Generals and Brigadier Generals. Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, the director of Army Public Relations, said on Friday night that the change resulted from efforts to restructure the military to improve administrative and operational effectiveness.
Onyema stated that the shake-up was caused by several senior officers retiring after the Army Chief’s appointment, even though he indicated the reassignment was customary.
“It is imperative to note that redeployment in the Nigerian Army is routine, particularly with the recent retirement of some senior officers as a result of the appointment of the new Army leadership. The redeployments take effect from July 3, 2023,” he said.
According to him, those affected by the recent redeployment include some Principal Staff Officers of Defence and Army Headquarters, Corps Commanders, Commandants of NA Training Institutions, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, and others.
