The governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has directed all revenue-generating ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to achieve an annual Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) target of N120 billion.

Bago issued the order while presiding over the enlarged inaugural State Executive Council (SEC) meeting at Government House in Minna’s Council Chamber.

He stated:

“All the revenue-generating MDAs should redouble their efforts to make sure the monthly target of N10 billion is achieved.”

He contended that in order for the current administration to offer democratic dividends to citizens, things must be done differently and correctly.

Bago, who noted that “any file will not last 24 hours on my table,” challenged other government employees to do the same.

He promised that his administration would be meticulous in its policies and would invest in agricultural equipment to turn the state’s fortunes around.

The governor also halted mining operations in the state so that miners could be profiled, stating that his government would not tolerate criminal activity.

He reminded SEC members to remember their oath of office, tasked them with being accessible and appropriately fulfil their duties without overlapping, and announced that council sessions will now be held via Zoom between 8 a.m. and noon every Wednesday.

Gov. Bago also encouraged conference attendees to prepare supplemental budgets for their MDAs, stating that his government will strictly adhere to the state budget.
