Kano: Gov Abba approves N4.8bn for scholarship, other projects

The Kano State Government has authorised the release of N4.8 billion for the implementation of different projects in the state.

Baba Dantiye, the Commissioner for Information, said this when briefing reporters on the conclusion of the state executive council’s sixth meeting on Friday.

He stated that the council approved N3,577,288,540 for the Ministry of Higher Education to sponsor 550 qualified indigenous students for postgraduate studies abroad, while N544,321,168 was approved for the Ministry of Education to pay outstanding funds for feeding boarding students.

Dantiye said that N79,284,537 was allowed to facilitate the reconstruction of 11 closed boarding schools in the state, and N131,500,000 was approved to facilitate the state’s internal inspection in 2023. He listed other approvals to include N172,528,572 for the settlement of outstanding liability for the completion of the Kano State liaison office in Abuja; N111,990,955 for the repair and maintenance Works at Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Obasanjo Flyovers in Kano Municipal Local Government Area, while N22,164,893 was approved for the construction of two Multi-Cell box culverts at Rafin Gora and Rafin Zur in Yelwa ward, Rano Local Government Area.

Similarly, he stated that the Kano State Agency for the Control of Aids approved N69,039,407 for the Ministry of Health for the procurement of HIV rapid test children, while N15,274,640 was approved for the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for the annual mosquito vector and rodent control in the state.

Dantiye also said that N1,693,000 was allocated for the office of Head of Civil Service to pay bereaved families’ allowances for 34 more dead municipal officials in the state between January 2023 and July 2023.

Other council resolutions, according to the commissioner, included the reintroduction of the Kwankwasiyya medical outreach programme across the 44 Local Government Areas and the reintroduction of foreign scholarships for indigenes, beginning with 55 qualified applicants for postgraduate studies.

He stated that the council instructed the Ministry of Finance to conduct a biometric and verification operation for all state and local government pensioners in partnership with the Office of the Auditor General.
