The Oyo State Government has filed an appeal against the state high court’s decision last Wednesday, which ordered the removal of Oba Ghandi Olaoye as Soun of Ogbomoso.
Justice Adedokun in his judgement, case numbered HOG/27/2023 filed by Prince Kabir Olaoye, ruled that the selection procedure that produced Oba Ghandi as the Soun was invalid.
A fresh selection procedure was ordered by the judge.
Dissatisfied with the judgement, the Oyo State Government has petitioned the Court of Appeal’s Ibadan Division to reverse Justice Adedokun’s decision.
The state also requested a stay of execution of the October 25 judgement until the result of the appeal, through its counsel, Akin Onigbinde (SAN).
Governor Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, and the Commissioner for Local Governments and Chieftaincy Matters are the appellants.
The October 27 notice of appeal requests “an order setting aside the judgment of the trial court of October 25, or an order of re-trial before another judge of the Oyo State High Court.”
