Former Big Brother Naija Lockdown housemate, Vee Iye, has spoken out about the double standards she perceives in the public’s reaction to her breakup with Neo Akpofure.
In an interview with Moni Talks, she expressed frustration over what she sees as a different response from Nigerians based on gender roles in relationships.
Vee Iye highlighted how, if she were the one repeatedly kissing a former housemate who belittled her and her partner, the public reaction would be harsh. However, when Neo did the same by kissing Tolanibaj, who often spoke negatively about Vee and Neo, there was less criticism.
She revealed that after the breakup in August 2022, she and Neo attempted to reconcile, but an argument over Tolanibaj became the breaking point. Vee emphasized that if she had participated in the All-Stars show, she might have been disqualified due to the intense emotions and confrontations.
Many fans in the comment section echoed Vee’s sentiments, expressing support and emphasizing that she deserves better than the situation with Neo.
In the interview, Vee disclosed that Tolanibaj was a significant obstacle in her relationship with Neo, and she believed their breakup was not handled in the right way. She expressed relief in being vindicated about Tolanibaj’s interest in Neo and acknowledged the growth in herself since the breakup.
The breakup between Vee Iye and Neo Akpofure had surprised many fans who anticipated their relationship progressing to marriage. Reports suggested that Vee’s issues with Neo’s cousin, Venita Akpofure, were among the reasons for the split. Vee, however, stated that they ended amicably without drama.
Neo claimed that Vee wanted him back and regretted losing them, but Vee vehemently denied this, emphasizing her commitment to moving on from the relationship.
